Gold - Spandau Ballet

I love this song because it talks about your treasure, which is indestructible, unless you let others destroy you. As for me, my greatest treasure is myself.

There are a lot of things that limits my pride, although I am really not a proud person. In fact, I learned from the church that pride is a deadly sin. I do not wish I would have pride. I just wish I am more confident about myself and this is the role of this song in my life.

This song will keep on reminding to "believe in myself" which I forget most of the time. I seldom see the value of my existence but when I see those people who love me and cares for me, I regain my strength, I reclaim my glory. Slowly, I am rising up from my slumber, from my not-so-good past, from those who betrayed my turst. I also want to thank those people who have hurt me because they remind me to stay simple and humble, not too proud and hunger for fame nor attention.

I love this song!

Thank you for coming home
I'm sorry that the chairs are all worn
I left them here I could have sworn
These are my salad days slowly being eaten away
Just another play for today
Oh but I'm proud of you but I'm proud of you
Nothing left to make me feel small
Luck has left me standing so tall, all

Gold! Always believe in your soul
You've got the power to know, you're indestructible
Always believe in 'cause you are gold!
Glad that you're bound to return
there's something I could have learned
You're indestructible, always believe in

After the rush has gone I hope you find a little more time
Remember we were partners in crime
It's only two years ago the man with the suit and the pace
You knew that he was there on the case
Now he's in love with you he's in love with you
My love is like a high prison wall
and you could leave me standing so tall, all

Gold! Always believe in your soul
You've got the power to know, you're indestructible
Always believe in 'cause you are gold!
Glad that you're bound to return
there's something I could have learned
You're indestructible, always believe in

My love is like a high prison wall
and you could leave me standing so tall, all

Gold (gold) Always believe in your soul
You've got the power to know, you're indestructible
Always believe in 'cause you are gold (gold)
Glad that you're bound to return
there's something I could have learned
You're indestructible, always believe in

I was looking up the lyrics of Gold when I stumbled upon this blog post. Unfortunately, like so many others, you have misunderstood the lyrics. This is not a song meant to promote the self-esteem the listeners. It's a sort of love song that praises the particular person that is being addressed. Here's a tip: try not to read/listen to the lyrics as if this song is about you, because it's not.

To “Anonymous” (who obviously doesn’t have the courage to put a name to his/her ignorant commentary), the reason songs speak to people in the first place is because they can relate to or identify with them. Even when artists write for a specific person, by putting the song out there for the public they give a voice to all people who may have a similar experience in life. Or they may inspire them in a certain direction...or God forbid just make them feel alive! You have no right to minimize the blogger’s take on the song or experience in feeling something in relation to it. You’re an ignorant person, and your attempt at condescension just makes YOU look small—not the blogger. Do us a favor and keep your negative, erroneous opinions to yourself and let people enjoy the art of a song. And by the way, what the vast majority of songwriters will tell you is the meaning of their songs is this: “It’s whatever you want it to mean for you”. So back off— and be quiet until you have something intelligent and kind to say.
