KAY GANDA NG ATING MUSIKA - RYAN CAYBYAB

Another classic created by Ryan Caybyab is this song. This was popularized by another OPM icon Hajji Alejandro. The song talks about Filipino music.  This reflects some Filipino culture integrated in its lyrics.

We say thank you for the music because we have hymns to put baby to sleep, and the inspiration one gets from beautiful sights and scenes in nature.

We express our feelings through music. We immortalize artists because of the songs they have created. We remember the Michael Jackson of this earth, Whitney Houston, Richie Valens, Elvis Presley, Bob Marley and all the big names. They have all gone but their music remained.

I wouldn't have this blog site if not for the music. So thank you music!

Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika (How lovely our music)
Ryan Cayabyab / Hajji Alejandro

Magmula no'ng ako'y natutong umawit (Since I learned to sing)
Naging makulay ang aking munting daigdig (There was color in my world)
Tila ilog pala ang paghimig (My hymn is like the river)
Kung malalim, damdami'y pag-ibig (If deep, the feeling is love)
Kung umapaw ang kaluluwa't tinig (when it overflows, the spirit and voice)
Ay sadyang nanginginig (is intendedly trembling)
*This part is like saying that in singing all our heart out, the voice trembles, signifying that we could feel the emotion of the singer.

Magmula no'ng ako'y natutong umawit (Eversince I learned to sing)
Bawa't sandali'y aking pilit mabatid (Every moment, I tried to discover/learn)
Ang himig na maituturing atin (the tone/sound which we can say is ours) *meaning the kind of music which identifies the Filipino spirit
Mapupuri 'pagka't bukod-tangi (which can be praised because it is unique)
'Di marami ang 'di magsasabing (Not a lot is not saying)
Heto na't inyong dinggin (Here it is, you listen)

Kay ganda ng ating musika (How lovely is our music)
Kay ganda ng ating musika (How lovely is our music)
Ito ay atin, sariling atin (This is ours, our very own)
At sa habang-buhay, awitin natin (And in our entire life, let us sing it)
Kay ganda ng ating musika (How lovely is our music)
Kay ganda ng ating musika (How lovely is our music)
Ito ay atin, sariling atin (This is ours, our very own)

Magmula no'ng ako'y natutong umawit (Eversince I learned how to sing)
Nagkabuhay muli ang aking paligid (The surrounding came to life again)
Ngayong batid ko na ang umibig (Now I have discovered how to love)
Sa sariling tugtugtin o himig (Our own music or tone)
Sa isang makata'y maririnig (From one poet, we could hear)
Mga titik, nagsasabing (The letters/lyrics are saying)

Kay ganda ng ating musika (How lovely is our music)
Kay ganda ng ating musika (How lovely is our music)
Ito ay atin, sariling atin (This is ours, our very own)
At sa habang-buhay, awitin natin (And in our entire life, let us sing it)
Kay ganda ng ating musika (How lovely is our music)
Kay ganda ng ating musika (How lovely is our music)
Ito ay atin, sariling atin (This is ours, our very own)

Kay ganda ng ating musika (How lovely is our music)
Magmula no'ng ako'y natutong umawit (Eversince I learned how to sing)

ARAW, GABI - REGINE VELASQUEZ

Here is another song written by the Original Pilipino Music Maestro Ryan Cayabyab. I love it when they call him the Maestro because he has created a lot of beautiful songs for lovers, for youth, for the environment and many more. I think I would spend an entire episode blogging about his songs.

I have encountered one blog site, which I have posted below because I copied the lyrics from that site. I think, with my revived interest in writing about songs and celebrating Filipino talents, especially the seasoned and most loved artists, I want to learn more about Mr. Ryan Cayabyab.

So here is one song that has kept ringing in my ears. I loved the interpretation of Regine Velasquez for this song. The first time I heard her sang this, I thought it was so familiar until I figured, she revived the song.

Well, my partner is a Regine Velasquez avid fan, and so am I actually, so I was introduced to her version of this song. In my desire to learn about it, I found a Facebook post where Mr. Ryan Cayabyab wished Ms. Regine Velasquez a happy birthday. Ryan revealed this: "Araw, Gabi. I wrote this for my wife Emmy on her last birthday as a single person before we got married. We recorded it and gave away 45s during our wedding. Nonoy Z originally and beautifully sang it. But you know what? In its 33 years as a song, it has never attained the popularity that it has reached now. And it is all because of you. You sang it...oh so beautifully, and suddenly it has become an anthem for singers who are in love."

The Maestro said it himself. This version of Regine is really very lovely!

Now to my own translation of the song:
ARAW, GABI (Day, Night)
by Regine Velasquez

'Di biro ang sumulat ng awitin para sa 'yo (It is not a joke to write a song for you)
Para akong isang sira-ulong hilo at lito (Like a crazy person, dizzy and confused)
Sa akin pang minanang piyano tiklado'y pilit nilaro (With my inherited piano, I played hard with its keyboard)
Baka sakaling mayroong tonong bigla na lang uusbong (In the hope a tone would suddenly pop up)
Tungkol sa anomang kayang awitin para sa 'yo (About anything which I can sing for you)

'Di biro ang gawing sukat ang titik sa tono (It is no joke to blend the measure of lyrics with tone)
Sampu man aking diks'yonaryo (I may have ten dictionaries)
Kung ang tugma'y 'di wasto (If the rhyme is not right)
Basta't isiping 'di magbabago (Just think it will not change)
Damdamin ko sa iyo (My feelings for you)
*There is a twerk of the syntax here so it to become more sensible in English language, this part of the song meant: "Just think that my feelings for your will not change"

Araw-gabi nasa isip ka (Day-Night, you are on my mind)
Napapanaginip ka kahit sa'n man magpunta (I dream of you no matter where I go)
Araw-gabi nalalasing sa tuwa (Day-Night I get drunk in happiness)
kapag kapiling ka (as long as I am with you/beside you)
Araw-gabi tayong dal'wa (Day-Night the two of us)

Biruin mong nasabi ko ang nais kong ipahatid (Imagine I have said what I wanted to express)
Dapat mo nang mabatid laman nitong dibdib (You need to know the contents of my chest)
Tila sampung daang awitin (It's like ten hundred songs)
Natapos kong likhain (I wanted to creat)
Ito ang tunay na damdamin (This is the real feeling)
Tanggapin at dinggin (Accept and Listen)

Araw-gabi nasa isip ka (Day-Night, you are on my mind)
Napapanaginip ka kahit sa'n man magpunta (I dream of you no matter where I go)
Araw-gabi nalalasing sa tuwa (Day-Night I get drunk in happiness)
kapag kapiling ka (as long as I am with you/beside you)
Araw-gabi tayong dal'wa (Day-Night the two of us)

========
On a personal note, I would like to say that we Filipinos really do love music. It is not only our past time, it is already part of our life as it runs through our veins.

I love singing Regine Velasquez songs when I was younger and sober. Aging would make you lose your golden voice, you know. So I just sing duet with Regine when I am driving in my car and no one else is listening, except my partner. We sing with her together when we travel the earth together.

This is a love song created by a song writer. If you pursue the desires of your heart, one can be so creative. One could come up with a song with just the sound of one note. A poet could create a poem entry with just one word. That is how powerful love is. We become creative, we become a better version of ourselves.

So more about Filipino songs in my future posts.

HINDI MAGBABAGO - RANDY SANTIAGO

Hello everyone! It has been a while since my last post and the best way for me to start anew is to write about a song that would signify PERMANENCE!

"Hindi Magbabago" means something or someone will never change, or I can simply say, never change but it will not capture the translation entirely. That is how translation sometimes becomes troublesome. But let me do my best to translate them to you line by line.

Why did I chose this song as my first entry after two years of absence? I have thought of some other things to blog about but songs still appealed to me and this is how I started this blog anyway. Somehow, I was able to help others who are searching for song translations that could somehow capture the real message that the singer and song writer want to deliver to their listeners.

I could say this has been my passion ever since so why not stick to the game I used to play? Why not stick to the blog I have always did? So please, welcome me back and allow me to help you take your mind off this pandemic thing and let the music in our ears give us comfort.

I got the song lyrics from Google and the translation is purely mine, so read along.
Hindi Magbabago by Randy Santiago
(Song translation)

Nang matapos na'ng lahat, ako'y nahirapan (When everything ended, it was difficult)
Nalaman ko na ikaw ang tanging kailangan (I realized/learned that you are the only one I need)
Pinag-iisipang husto sa naiibang mundo (I thought of it so much, though in different world)
Kay hirap nang wala sa piling mo (It is so difficult to be away from you/lost without you)

Ginawa ko na'ng lahat para sa atin (I did everything for you)
Ngunit ika'y nagbago ng hangarin (But you changed your aspirations)
Kahit wala na tayo at masakit man sa puso (Though we are no longer together and it is painful in my heear)
Ay hindi mawawala, mga alaala (all our memories will not be lost) Just a note, the syntax was reversed here. The literal translation read: "will not be lost, all memories"

At hindi magbabago ang gusto ng puso ko (And it will not change, the desires of my heart) or using the correct english syntax, this line should mean "The desires of my heart will never be changed"
Wala nang hahanapin pa kundi pag-ibig mo (I will not search for anything else but your love)
May hiwagang natanto mula sa una pang tagpo (I discovered mysteries since our first meeting)
Mananatili 'to at hindi magbabago (This will remain and will not change)

Ginawa ko na'ng lahat para sa atin (I did everything for us)
Ngunit iba pa rin ang nangyari (But sonething different happened)
Walang-walang tatalo sa lahat nang dinanas ko (Nobody could ever beat what I experienced)
Pagnanais na ika'y mapasaaking muli (My desire for you to be mine again)

At hindi magbabago ang gusto ng puso ko (The desires of my heart will never change)

Kahit malayo na'y malapit ka pa rin sa aking puso, oh (Though you are far, you're still near my heart)
At hindi magbabago ang gusto ng puso ko (The desires of my heart will never change)

Mananatili 'to at hindi magbabago (This will remain and will not change)
At hindi magbabago (And will not change)

There is my translation and just a short post script here. Some would say nothing is permanent in this world. Taking it in the perspective of a philosopher, or a Philosophy major like me, a statement so sweeping like "nothing is permanent in this world" is dubious. I learned that somehow, there is one thing permanent in this world... and that is CHANGE.
There is the word play for today ladies and gentlemen. Just a thought to ponder on or if it made you laugh or smile somehow, share with us your thoughts through the comment box.

Good day!
