American Pie - Don McLean

This is a very famous song. I just recently learned that Roberta Flack's rendetion of Killing Me Softly (with his song) is a song about Don McLean while he is singing American Pie. There are a lot of websites there avaialable to give you the meaning of this song. As for me, this is how my story goes:

I have been meaning to write about this song because this song reminds me of the person who made this blog site for me. I told her my idea, never intended that she'll be spending like 48 hours to create this site.

She's my dad's cousin but within my generation, we're 4 years apart. She used to have a huge collection of turntable records (I'm not really sure how they are called right now because they have been replaced by CDs, mini CDs and DVDs). It was an awe to see a turntable, the fact being that I grew from a far-flung area. We only knew about transistor radios, black & white TVs and a game called hide n' seek.

One of her collection was that of Don McLean. I first heard of this song from my aunt's collections. I appreciated it, but didn't bother to know the story behind this song. I would say she is a big fan of this artist. She has a good choice of music, you know. And she is the only person I knew who was so organized in things. She organized her collections, labeled them neatly and knew the contents of her collection by heart! When the first part of the movie series American Pie (Jason Biggs) came to the big screen, I instantly remembered my aunt. The reason being, she practically inculcated this song in my mind. I appreciated the song, not for it's lyrics or singer. I appreciated it because deep within me, I know this one will always tell me a story about my childhood days with my aunt.

This is one of the reasons why I wanted to talk about songs and music. Music connects the past and the future, like music lives forever!

Enjoy the music!

Realize - Colbie Caillat

My cousin is going out of town to be with her husband and told me I should write about this song. This is a new song, as far as I'm concerned because it's sung by a new singer, the famous Colbie! I asked her, her own story of this song and told me to just read the lyrics. Alright, I've read the lyrics and maybe, she's just trying to tell me something. She's always difficult to understand but when you get to understand her, she's just full of wonder, full of sense, full of fun and full of everything I miss about her.

I realized just right now that she has been more than a sister to me, more than a cousin and more than a friend. If there is one word I could say about her, if you will not misunderstand me - soulmate. Yeah, that's what I feel right now. Why did I say this?

Without a word, she understands me. She just understands! And now she's leaving, I'll miss her for sure but I will rejoice for her, the fact that she'll be living with her husband now. I know her husband, he's a good man and a very sincere person. We got the chance to be together and I am just happy that he loved my cousin more than anybody else.

As for his song... I got her point! But let me tell you... we had the time of our lives!!!

If she'll gonna read this when you get to your place, I will bear this in mind. I know you're reading my mind and I'm thankful I have you! You take care now! I know he's gonna take care of you more than I took care of you. Love you cuz!

This is the song you're leaving me with and I figured out what you're trying to tell me. That's the story behind this song... let's realize!

Everytime - A1

Today is the first of August and I just feel like I need to write and I have a very clear recollection of a very emotional song by A1. That is the title of this blog entry.

Let me start with the lyrics because this is the reason why this song stood out from the rest, as far as I'm concerned.

Lyrics | Everytime lyrics

I was in a van going home, idly listening to my ipod shuffle then I came accross this song. I suddenly remembered the story of someone close to me. This is a story of a couple having rough times in their relationship, fought back to be together, then sadly had to say goodbye for good. I've known them for how many years having full of love, sincerity and strength but short to be a perfect couple. Both of them are now happily engaged with somebody new but the ex-couples are still good friends. That is why this song reminds me of them.

I just envy them because after the relationship, their friendship lives on. I wonder how many of us feels that lovers should be good friends afterwards. I sometimes wish I could still be in good terms with lovers or friends or whoever I used to consider special and used to be close with, and that includes some relatives, who give you heartaches, problems and pains more than anyone else. Ooopsss, wait, i didn't mean all of them. At least some of them. Well, at least I have some who are still my good friends after the pain they caused me. (sigh!) The reason is: I easily forget the pain then move on.

Ok so I guess this is just it. I'm short to saying "Love makes the world go round so let's spread it!"

The Gift - Jim Brickman

A post was sent to me via email. The sender is "oNe lOvE"

Here it goes for better view:

Everyone has one Special Gift that stands out from among the rest. It may have taken God for so long to prepare me this gift, but no regrets for He has picked up and given me the Best and most Precoius gift one has always prayed for...and it's worth all the wait!

This song reminds me how precious and special I am in God's eyes that despite of my disobedience to Him, He has given the gift of this person...I can share and spend the rest of my life with.

To restore oneself from a painful past caused by broken relationships is a great challenge, but it was made easy with the presence of this person...i can consider a gift....and I'm thankful everyday for the GIFT!

Such a lucky person! Well, goodluck to you and may you be together in spirit, in time and in space! Til Death do you part! Thanks for sharing one love! I took the liberty of searching the lyrics and audio (Sarah Geronimo version):

Winter snow is falling down
Children laughing all around
Lights are turning on
Like a fairy tale come true
Sitting by the fire we made
You're the answer when i prayed
I would find someone
And baby i found you

All i want is to hold you forever
All i need is you more every day
You saved my heart
From being broken apart
You gave your love away
And i'm thankful every day
For the gift

Watching as you softly sleep
What i'd give if i could keep
Just this moment
If only time stood still
But the colors fade away
And the years will make us grey
But baby in my eyes
You'll still be beautiful

All i want is to hold you forever
All i need is you more every day
You saved my heart
From being broken apart
You gave your love away
And i'm thankful every day
For the gift
(instrumental)

All i want is to hold you forever
All i need is you more every day
You saved my heart
From being broken apart
You gave your love away
I can't find the words to say
That i'm thankful every day
For the gift

Let me be your hero - Enrique Iglesias

Everyone has their own love story and this one is one of the most romantic love songs I've ever heard. This song by Enrique Iglesias was the wedding song of one of my closest cousins. She has been living in another country for almost 10 years now but she got married here last October 2004.

Her husband became close to me, why not? We almost have the same first names (haha!) He's European and is really a very sweet and sincere person. One could see that he's deeply in love, and now happily married to my cousin. They are currently living in Europe and blessed with 2 kids. He chose this song and heartfully dedicated it to her wife. What makes this wedding even more special is when one of the country's biggest news center covered the wedding and was featured/shown in a national television. Primarily because the couple and their entourage were all wearing black (or with a tinge of black), color not so famous in a wedding ceremony.

Of course this means a lot to me too, because in their church wedding, it was my mom who sang it for them. (She just have a very irresistible voice, a voice in demand!) If you happen to see the MTV of this song, you could actually feel all the emotions that Enrique Iglesias has placed in this song.

I bet everyone would fall in love again once we read the lyrics below:

--- LET ME BE YOUR HERO ---
Would you dance,If I asked you to dance?
Would you run, And never look back?
Would you cry,If you saw me crying?
And would you save my soul, tonight?
Would you tremble,If I touched your lips?
Would you laugh? Oh please tell me this.

Now would you die,For the one you love?
Hold me in your arms, tonight.
I can be your hero, baby.
I can kiss away the pain.
I will stand by you forever.
You can take my breath away.

Would you swear, That youll always be mine?
Or would you lie? Would you run and hide?
Am I in too deep? Have I lost my mind?
I dont care...Youre here, tonight.
I can be your hero, baby.
I can kiss away the pain.
I will stand by you forever.
You can take my breath away.
Oh, I just wanna to hold you.
I just wanna to hold you. Oh yeah.

Am I in too deep? Have I lost my mind?
Well I dont care...You're here, tonight.
I can be your hero, baby. I can kiss away the pain.
I will stand by your forever.
You can take my breath away.

I can be your hero.
I can kiss away the pain.
And I will stand by you, forever.
You can take my breath away.
You can take my breath away.
I can be your hero.

I Remember The Boy - Joey Albert

Since most of my song stories here are related to a person close to my heart, here is another one. Im protecting her identity so let's call her by the name "Bing".

This song by Joey Albert (artist from the Philippines, who happened to be the original singer of "Tell Me" a song revived by David Pomeranz) reminds me so much, not of the boy, but of the girl who gave me pointers on how to sing better. Of course I got my natural talent in singing from my mom (on the presumption that I'm indeed a good singer), and there were some people instrumental in my singing (soon a carreer). One of them is a cousin of my dad whom I adore so much. It was mid-80s, (I know, I'm getting old) when we used to spend vacation in my aunt's house. She is likewise a good singer, very intelligent, very caring not to mention very pretty (because we carry the same set of genes - wink!).

I learned about the song when I hear her sing "I Remember The Boy" a lot. She played the tape of Joey Albert over and over, and this is the one song I hear her sing in the kitchen, the living room or in her room, name it! She wanted me to remember the way it was sung. When I open my mouth and start to sing, whe knew right there that my note is not good. I'm a shy kid, but she managed to let me sing and she corrected me in a very sensitive way.

My vacation ended, a year later her entire family went to the US. It's gonna be silly for me to expect she'd call and sing me this song. I miss her and I miss those days. I remember the girl when I hear the song "I Remember the Boy".

Let's try to listen to the song and remember the boy.... errr... I mean remember the past.

http://www.imeem.com/imissrehab/music/gHKsBSAo/joey_albert_i_remember_the_boy/

Today I heard them play the song again
An old familiar strain from way back when
Every note and every line
It's always been a favorite song of mine

It used to haunt me so some years ago
Reminds me of a boy I used to know
And although the melody lives on
The memories and the boy are all but gone

And while the song still brings that certain glow
And the words still sing of love I know
It isn't quite the way it was before
I remember the boy
But I don't remember the feeling anymore

The promises we made seemed easier then
As if we knew our love would never end
But seasons change and time erases the tears
As quickly as the rivers disappear

So while the song still brings that certain glow
And the words still sing of love I know
It isn't quite the way it was before
I remember the boy
But I don't remember the feeling
I remember the boy
But I don't remember the feeling anymore

The Greatest Love of all - Whitney Houston

Okay, so you probably have heard this song for the nth time. My mom used to sing this each time we have videoke sessions, "from then until now". I enjoy her singing this song because I really felt loved, the way a mom loves her kids. I truly like the lyrics of the song, especially when you're watching it in MTV or the like, and there are children in the background, playing, laughing, running around and enjoying every single minute while you are listening to the song.

The last phrase is also very catchy when it says "...find your strength in love..."
Yeah, with love, we can conquer all. We can only conquer everything if we have love and so we realize that we are strong because we have love. On the other hand, we love because we have the strength to fall-in love, or to fall-apart. So there goes the greatest advise a mom can give to her kids. Love! and the greatest love of all is happening to me... (I bet mom's greatest love of all is "me"). hahaha. But seriously, I love this song when my mom's singing it so better hear her sing!

Just imagine your mom saying those words to you, gently, full of compassion, ecouragement and love. That's how my mom sings this song... with feelings, not necessarily for me but for the entire family.

For your pleasure, here's the lyrics courtesy of http://www.lyrics007.com

I believe the children are our are future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
Everybody searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone who fulfill my needs
A lonely place to be
So I learned to depend on me

Chorus:
I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I'll live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all

I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be

Chorus

And if by chance, that special place
That you've been dreaming of
Leads you to a lonely place
Find your strength in love
