ANG TIPO KONG LALAKI - DJ ALVARO

This song of DJ Alvaro is one of its kind detailing what this girl likes in a boy.
She is not looking for a kind person but she has specific requirements from him.

This song came out when girls in my college days were crazy about tall, young, handsome and rich kind of a guy. SO naturally, when I encountered the title of this song, I thought the singer would end up saying those qualities from a guy. I was mistaken. The singer was not looking for a preacher, a rich kids not even those qualities I mentioned.

The singer was looking for an adventurous guy instead. Somebody who doesn't have to be handsome, nor intelligent, nor a gentleman or just a home-buddy.

She searches for someone who is reasonable. He may not be extremely kind as long as he is gentleman, with a touch of rudeness. He may kick somebody's butt as long as he is justified, like he was defending a loved one or somebody weak.

I enjoyed listening to this song although I have to see yet a guy who is like that. I know someone who drinks although not a drunkard but he refuses to throw a feast. He chooses to keep out of trouble.

Well, I guess I am just intrigued of that kind of guy.

I am sharing my translation of this song so you could let me know what is your take on the singers choice of a guy. What about you, who is your type of a guy?

Lyrics and translation of the song inside parenthesis:

Ang Tipo Kong Lalaki (My type/kind of Guy)

Kahit hindi gwapo (Eventhough he is not handsome)
Kahit na 'di matalino (Eventhough he is not intelligent)
Basta't siya ay may puso (As long as he has a heart)
Siya pa rin ay gugustuhin ko (I will still like him)

Hindi kinakailangang (He doesn't need)
Masunurin sa magulang (To be obedient to his parents)
Basta't siya ay magalang (As long as he is respectful)
At mapagkakatiwalaan (And trustworthy)

Kahit hindi gwapo (Eventhough he is not handsome)
Kahit na 'di matalino (Eventhough he is not intelligent)
Basta't siya ay may puso (As long as he has a heart)
Siya pa rin ay gugustuhin ko (I will still like him)

Umiinom man ng marami (He may drink a lot)
Kahit na ba balde-balde (Even bucket's full)
Basta't hindi lassenggo (As long as he is not drunk)
Umiinom pero 'di lassenggo (He drinks but not a drunkard)

Kahit hindi gwapo (Eventhough he is not handsome)
Kahit na 'di matalino (Eventhough he is not intelligent)
Basta't siya ay may puso (As long as he has a heart)
Siya pa rin ay gugustuhin ko (I will still like him)

Manuntok man ng tao (He may punch somebody)
Basta ba nasa katwiran ito (As long as he is justified)
Manapak man ng gago (He may hurt a fool)
Basta't hindi ba basagulero (As long as he is not troublesome)

Kahit hindi gwapo (Eventhough he is not handsome)
Kahit na 'di matalino (Eventhough he is not intelligent)
Basta't siya ay may puso (As long as he has a heart)
Siya pa rin ay gugustuhin ko (I will still like him)

Ayaw ko sa sobrang maginoo (I don't want him to be extremely gentleman)
Dahil baka ako ay mabato (Because I might get bored)
Ang tipo kong lalake (My type of a guy)
Ang tipo kong lalake (My type of a guy)
Ang tipo kong lalake medyo bastos (My type of a guy is somewhat rude)
Maginoo pero medyo bastos (Gentleman but somewhat rude)
Maginoo pero medyo bastos (Gentleman but somewhat rude)
Maginoo pero medyo bastos (Gentleman but somewhat rude)
Maginoo pero medyo bastos (Gentleman but somewhat rude)

ROSAS - NICA DEL ROSARIO

This one song was composed by an artist which is now being used as the campaign theme for a presidential candidate Leni Robredo. She is currently the Vice President of the country and she is one notch away from the presidential seat.

It is so Pilipino when one volunteers for the cause of another person. I cannot help but remember the Bayanihan scene where fellow Pilipinos carry a hut of their neighbor. The picture below is my childhood memory of the word Bayanihan which means A spirit of civic unity and cooperation among Filipinos according to Oxford dictionary.

On Monday, May 9, 2022, around 50 million Filipinos will go out and cast their vote for their national and local leaders. May the Spirit of the Almighty Being be upon the present and future of the country.

Here is my translation for the song:

Rosas (is rose in English but it is also used as in the color pink, which is the campaign color of the Vice President)

Wag kang mabahala (Do not worry)
Ikaw ay mahalaga (You are important)
Hindi kita pababayaan (I will not leave you)
Hindi ka naiiba (You are not different)
At sana'y paniwalaan (And I hope you will believe)
Na pipiliin ka araw-araw (That I will choose you everyday)
At alam ko ang aking kaya, alam ko ang hindi (And I know what I can, I know what I don't)
Alam ko ang kailangan upang makapagsilbi (I know your needs so I can serve)
Hangga't may kabutihan, hangga't may pag-ibig (As long as there is kindness, as long as there is love)
Liwanag ang mananaig (The light will prevail)
At hindi ko maipapangako (And I cannot promise)
Ang kulay rosas na mundo para sa 'yo (A pink world for you)
At hindi ko maiilawan ang lahat ng anino (And I cannot light all shadows)
Pero sisikapin ko (But I will exert effort)
At hindi ako magpapahinga (And I will not rest)
Hangga't hindi mo pa magawang muling ipagmalaki (Until you can be proud again)
Na ika'y isang Pilipino (That you are Pilipino)
'Wag kang matatakot (Do not be afraid)
May kasangga ka sa laban na ito (You got company in this fight)
Sabay nating gisingin ang nasyon (Together let us wake this nation up)
At alam ko ang aking kaya, alam ko ang hindi (And I know what I can, I know what I don't)

Pilipinong may pusong sagutin ang tugon (Pilipino who has heart to answer replies)
Pilipinong may tapang na muling bumangon (Pilipino who has courage to rise again)
Pilipinong buo ang paninindigan (Pilipino who has undivided stand)
Alam ang tama at totoo (Who knows right and truth)
Samahan mo ako (Accompany me)
At hindi ko maipapangako (And I cannot promise)
Ang kulay rosas na mundo para sa 'yo (A pink world for you)
At hindi ko maiilawan ang lahat ng anino (And I cannot light all shadows)
Pero sisikapin ko (But I will exert effort)
At hindi ako magpapahinga (And I will not rest)
Hangga't hindi mo pa magawang muling ipagmalaki  na ika'y isang..(Until you can be proud again that you are)
Matatag at matapang (Stable and brave)
At mabuti at mapagmahal na (and kind and loving)

KATHANG ISIP - BEN&BEN

This is one of the songs my son likes singing. He was 8 years old when he was forced to sing on videoke. That is our past time in our family anyway. I really do not expect that he can finish an entire song but I believe my sister could always inspire him (or force him) to sing.

My sister sent the video to me and I was so proud of my boy because he can express himself through a song. I am proud of him not just he tries hard to achieve something out of his own volition. I am also proud that he knows the reality of our society.

When he was 6 years old, he drew a big house on his notebook. It was a two-storey house and I asked him "Why so big?", sine there was just the two of us. And he responded, we will live with the children whose parents died or who were left by their mothers. His explanation touched my heart. He already has a plan on how to help the orphans.

Well, the title of the song is Kathang Isip which means Imagination or creative imaginations.

My son expressed his creativity through his song and his drawing and he is able to make a plan from his mind.

Cheers to creative minds! Cheers to children who knows the reality around and they want to do something about it.  Cheers to those who love the children, especially the orphans!

Cheers to those who walked away as the song wants to tell us.

Read on.

This is my translation of the song:

KATHANG ISIP (Imagination)
by Ben&Ben

Diba nga ito ang iyong gusto? (Isn't this what you want?)
O, ito'y lilisan na ako (Oh here, I'm leaving)
Mga alaala'y ibabaon (All memories be buried)
Kalakip ang tamis ng kahapon (Enclosed with the sweetness of yesterday)

Mga gabing di namamalayang (Those unnoticed nights)
Oras ay lumilipad (Time is flying)
Mga sandaling lumalayag kung (Those moments of sailing)
San man tayo mapadpad (Wherever it leads us)

Bawat kilig na nadarama (Every thrill I feel)
Sa tuwing hawak ang 'yong kamay (Everytime I hold your hand)
Ito'y maling akala (This is a mistake)
Isang malaking sablay (One great failure)
Pasensya ka na (Apologies)
Sa mga kathang isip kong ito (To all my imaginations/fictions)
Wari'y dala lang ng pagmamahal sa iyo (Perhaps caused by my love for you)
Ako'y gigising na (I am waking up)
Sa panaginip kong ito (From this dream of mine)
At sa wakas ay kusang lalayo sa iyo (To voluntarily walk away from you)

Gaano kabilis nag simula (Our speedy beginning)
Gano'n katulin nawala (is as fast it was gone)
Maaari ba tayong bumalik sa umpisa (Can we go back to the beginning?)
Upang di na umasa ang pusong nagiisa (So my lonely heart will not hope anymore)

Pasensya ka na (Apologies)
Sa mga kathang isip kong ito (To all my imaginations/fictions)
Wari'y dala lang ng pagmamahal sa iyo (Perhaps caused by my love for you)
Ako'y gigising na (I am waking up)
Sa panaginip kong ito (From this dream of mine)
At sa wakas ay kusang lalayo sa iyo (To voluntarily walk away from you)

Sumabay sa agos na isinulat ng tadhana (Flow together with the writings of destiny)
Minsan siya'y para sa iyo (Sometimes he/she is for you)
Pero minsan siya'y paasa (Sometimes he/she is hopeful)
Tatakbo papalayo (Will run farther)
Kakalimutan ang lahat (forget everything)

Pero kahit saan man lumingon (But wherever you look)
Nasusulyapan ang kahapon (You can get a glimpse of yesterday)
At sa aking bawat paghinga (And in every breath)
Ikaw ang nasa isip ko sinta (You are in my mind, my love)
Sa mga kathang isip kong ito (To all my imaginations/fictions)
Wari'y dala lang ng pagmamahal sa iyo (Perhaps caused by my love for you)

Ako'y gigising na (I am waking up)
Sa panaginip kong ito (From this dream of mine)
At sa wakas ay kusang lalayo sa iyo (To voluntarily walk away from you)

Diba nga ito ang iyong gusto? (Isn't this what you want?)
O, ito'y lilisan na ako (Oh here, I'm leaving)
Kaya't pasensya ka na (That's why apologies or I am sorry)

IKAW AT AKO - Moira Dela Torre, Jason Marvin

https://www.goodnewspilipinas.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Alden-Kath-HLG.jpg

This song never fails to send back the feeling of love. This is the theme song of the movie I posted above - HELLO, LOVE, GOODBYE.

I really do not have much time watching movies but when I do, I enjoy it with so much gusto!
I love movies created by Star Cinema. That's what babe and I normally watch when it comes to tagalog movies.

Ok, the movie is a story about two Filipino overseas workers who met in Hong Kong. The guy is a bar tender while the girl is a domestic helper. Both of them represents Filipino realities abroad. Both have love stories in the past that did not work out. The girl used to have a long distance relationship but did not work out. The boy fell so hard with his girl friend and followed the girl's American dream but they still broke up because of the girl's high ambitions. It is a typical relationship. I have the same experience when it comes to love.

I can relate so much with their stories when I had a failed long distance relationship, and the other is when I gave too much of what I have, only to lose in the end. I have gone through hardships because of those broken relationships, but I survived! Well, my sister calls me "strong person". It feels to her that I can conquer all the challenges in my life.

My brokenness did not stop me from living my life one day at a time - one blog at a time; one song at a time. Each day may seem short but when we keep living the good way one day at a time, everything will come out good later.

Despite my broken past, the Lord sent me what I was praying for - peace of mind, love of my life, simple living... and this for me is my eternity. I will make sure that Babe and I will thrive.

And if you are reading this, let me tell you: Just you and I Babe!

Here is my translation of this song:

IKAW AT AKO (YOU AND I)

Sabi nila, balang araw (They say, someday)
Darating ang iyong tanging hinihiling (your request/prayer will arrive)
At noong dumating ang aking panalangin (and when it arrives)
Ay hindi na maikubli (you cannot deny/hide)
Ang pag-asang nahanap ko sa 'yong mga mata (the hope that i see in your eyes)
At ang takot kong sakali mang ika'y mawawala (and my fear in case you will be gone)

At ngayon, nandiyan ka na (And now you are here)
'Di mapaliwanag ang nadarama (I cannot explain the feeling)
Handa ako sa walang-hanggan (I am prepared for eternity)
'Di paaasahin, 'di ka sasaktan (Won't fail you, won't hurt you)
Mula noon hanggang ngayon (Since then until now)
Ikaw at ako (You and I)

At sa wakas ay nahanap ko na rin (And finally, I also found)
Ang aking tanging hinihiling (my only wish)
Pangako sa 'yo na ika'y uunahin (Promise that I will prioritize you)
At hindi naitatanggi (And I won't deny)
Ang tadhanang nahanap ko sa 'yong pagmamahal (The destiny that I found in your love)
Ang dudulot sa pag-ibig natin na magtatagal (It will bring our love until the end)

At ngayon, nandiyan ka na (And now you are here)
Palaging hahawakan iyong mga kamay (I will always hold your hands)
'Di ka na mag-iisa (you will not be alone)
Sa hirap at ginhawa ay iibigin ka (In difficulties and and comfort, i will love you)
Mula noon hanggang ngayon (Since then until now)
Mula ngayon hanggang dulo (From now until the end)
Ikaw at ako (You and I)

HANGGANG KAILAN - ORANGE AND LEMONS

This is such a wonderful song from the band Orange and Lemons. It was used as the love song of Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo in their movie "The Haws of Us". I remember this was a Star Cinema Production so I watched it in the big screen. I am not really a fun of Tagalog movies, or movies in general.

I am reminded of 'Babe' when I hear this song. She was the first in mind when I Daniel Padilla sang it in the movie. In fact, I am not singing this song to babe once in a while because I just want her beside me. I want her to be travelling with me. I cannot go home without her. I do not like to travel without her. We have almost always been together for sometime now, because I got traumatized when I met an accident on Christmas Morning. I was going home to her that day when I met an accident. I was not harmed and my car was covered by insurance but I don't like the feeling of being alone driving again.

I don't like the feeling of being away from her again.

So, stay with me baby!

Here is my English translation of the song
Hanggang Kailan
by Orange and Lemons

Labis na naiinip (I am extremely impatient)
Nayayamot sa bawat saglit (Upset at every moment)
Kapag naaalala ka (When I remember you)
Wala naman akong magawa (There is nothing I can do)

Umuwi ka na baby (Come home already baby)
'Di na ako sanay ng wala ka (I am not used to being without you)
Mahirap ang mag-isa (It is difficult to be along)
At sa gabi'y hinahanap-hanap kita (And in the evening, I long for you)

Hanggang kailan ako (Until when will I)
Maghihintay na makasama kang (Be waiting to be with you)
Muli sa buhay kong puno ng paghihirap (Again in this life which is full of difficulties)
At tanging ikaw lang ang (And you are the only one who)
Pumapawi sa mga luha at (relieves the tears and)
Naglalagay ng ngiti sa mga labi (Who puts smile to my lips)

Di mapigilang mag-isip (I cannot help but think)
Na baka sa tagal (That when it becomes too long/or for not having you for long)
Mahulog ang loob mo sa iba (You will fall for somebody else)
Nakakabalisa knock on wood (This is disturbing "knock on wood")
Wag naman sana (Hope this will not happen)

Umuwi ka na baby (Come home baby)
Umuwi ka na baby (Come home baby)
Umuwi ka na baby (Come home baby)
Umuwi ka na baby (Come home baby)
Umuwi ka na baby (Come home baby)
Umuwi ka na baby (Come home baby)

BATO SA BUHANGIN - CINDERELLA

This song, Bato sa Buhangin is a song that reminds me about the beach. I have lived near the ocean for over a year now and I always enjoy the comfort of just looking at the sea and let my mind wonder through its vast horizon.

I love the sound of the sea because it swallows the noise of everything. There are no noisy trucks, no babies crying, no barking nor crowing, just the waves splashing against the shore line.

I also love the fact that my sea is a fishing community so I get excited when I could chance upon a fisherman coming home from work, with his various catch. I know I can feast on fresh catch! I used to love the raw fish, dipped in lemon juice and salt. Since our staple food in the Philippines is rice, I can have instant breakfast in the seashore, joined by relatives. An instant picnic is ensured.

I said I used to love it, but because of aging, my stomach easily gets upset. Uncooked fish won't fit my aging stomach anymore. Now, one of the questions of this song is: Are rocks and sand compatible or does a rock fit the sand?

Now I remember the youtube video I once viewed. An old man was putting in big rocks in a transparent basin. Then he placed pebbles, and lastly, the sand. He explained that in life, we should prioritize the most valuable things first like family, health, love. Then we proceed at some of the average things like wealth, prestige, promotion. After that, we can fill in the small things in life like our wants, the shoes or new phone, etc.

So is the rock compatible with sand in this analogy? They are.

Well, love move mountains. So does the sea. It can also turn rocks to sand. Everything is possible in love. Everything disintegrates in sea. Both forces are powerful, so as this song.

This is one classic song that I love to sing.

Bato sa Buhangin
English translation
Kapag ang puso'y natutong magmahal (When the heart learns how to love)
Bawat tibok ay may kulay at buhay (Each heartbeat has color and life)
Ngunit kung ang pagsuyo'y lilipas din (But when the emotion/love goes/passes)
Bagay kaya ang bato sa buhangin (Does the rock suits the sand?)

Kay hirap unawain (It is so difficult to understand)
Bawat damdamin (Each feeling/emotion)
Pangakong magmahal hanggang libing (Promise to love up to the grave)
Sa langit may tagpuan din (There is a meeting place in heaven)
At doon hihintayin (And I will wait for you there)
Itong bato sa buhangin (This rock in the sand)

Ngunit kung ang pagsuyo'y lilipas din (But when the emotion/love goes/passes)
Bagay kaya ang bato sa buhangin (Does the rock suits the sand?)

Kay hirap unawain (It is so difficult to understand)
Bawat damdamin (Each feeling/emotion)
Pangakong magmahal hanggang libing (Promise to love up to the grave)
Sa langit may tagpuan din (We can meet in heaven)
At doon hihintayin (And I will wait for you there)
Itong bato sa buhangin (This rock in the sand)

PAGKAKAIBIGAN - HANGAD

Here is one song that keeps ringing my mind everyday. I learned this song when I was an active member of the church choir over a decade ago. I really love where the song goes...

"Ang Kaibiga'y mag-aalay ng sarili nyang buhay"

Meaning a friend will give up his/her life which reminds me of Jesus Christ. If we read the Bible, Jesus was still human when He prayed to God to "take this cup" but later on declared "Thy will be done". I felt His fear of giving up His life, of succumbing to His persecutors, because He only did good things here on earth. But He gave up His life. That is true love, for the people or for the cause He was fighting for. We now have hope in our hearts, we are saved by our Faith.

The singer of this song is a group called Hangad. It is a tagalog word meaning "intention" and "desire".

Here is what Wikipedia's chronicle about this group:

Hangad's origins begin with the Days with the Lord (DWTL) retreat/recollection at the all-boys Ateneo de Manila High School. In need of a singing group for their own group, Chad Arcinue and Lance Lazatin recruited classmates and friends. A high school faculty member, Gabby Mallillin, encouraged the then-unnamed group to sing in the next DWTL sessions.

Because of this, the same group of people would often find themselves participating in school activities. As the members were known to be participants of the DWTL seminars, the group has often been mistaken for the DWTL's "official" choir. Hence, on October 1991, the group decided to establish their own identity and adapted the name Hangad. Hangad made its debut concert in 1992.

By the time they were in college, Hangad began to accept female members, initially from high schools and colleges such as College of the Holy Spirit, Miriam College and Stella Maris. The reconstituted Hangad continued with their participation in activities at the Ateneo de Manila University, including masses; the newly reorganized group also held its first concert in 1994. For their service to the university community, they were awarded the Dean's Award for Service.

Ang sino man sa aki'y mananahan (Whoever lives in me)
Mananahan din ako sa kanya (I also live in Him/Her)
At kung siya'y mamunga nang masagana (And if he/she bears fruit)
Siya sa ama'y nagbigay ng karangalan (He gives honor to the Father)

Mula ngayon kayo'y aking kaibigan (From now on you are my friends)
Hinango sa dilim at kababaan (Lifted from darkness and lowliness)
Ang kaibiga'y mag-aalay ng sarili niyang buhay (A friend will offer his/her own life)
Walang hihigit sa yaring pag-aalay (Nothing is greated than such an offering)

Kung paanong mahal ako ng aking ama (How the Father loves me)
Sa inyo'y aking ipinadarama (I will let you feel it)
Sa pag-ibig ko kayo sana ay manahan (I hope you will live in my love)
At bilin ko sa inyo ay magmahalan (And I advise you to love one another)

Mula ngayon kayo'y aking kaibigan (From now on you are my friends)
Hinango sa dilim at kababaan (Lifted from darkness and lowliness)
Ang kaibiga'y mag-aalay ng sarili niyang buhay (A friend will offer his/her own life)
Walang hihigit sa yaring pag-aalay (Nothing is greated than such an offering)

Pinili ka't hinirang upang mahalin (You were chosen and raised)
Nang mamunga't bunga mo'y panatilihin (To bear fruit and maintain it)
Humayo ka't mamunga nang masagana (Go forth and bear fruit/be productive)
Kagalakang walang hanggang ipamamana (You will inherit and everlasting happiness)

KAY GANDA NG ATING MUSIKA - RYAN CAYBYAB

Another classic created by Ryan Caybyab is this song. This was popularized by another OPM icon Hajji Alejandro. The song talks about Filipino music.  This reflects some Filipino culture integrated in its lyrics.

We say thank you for the music because we have hymns to put baby to sleep, and the inspiration one gets from beautiful sights and scenes in nature.

We express our feelings through music. We immortalize artists because of the songs they have created. We remember the Michael Jackson of this earth, Whitney Houston, Richie Valens, Elvis Presley, Bob Marley and all the big names. They have all gone but their music remained.

I wouldn't have this blog site if not for the music. So thank you music!

Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika (How lovely our music)
Ryan Cayabyab / Hajji Alejandro

Magmula no'ng ako'y natutong umawit (Since I learned to sing)
Naging makulay ang aking munting daigdig (There was color in my world)
Tila ilog pala ang paghimig (My hymn is like the river)
Kung malalim, damdami'y pag-ibig (If deep, the feeling is love)
Kung umapaw ang kaluluwa't tinig (when it overflows, the spirit and voice)
Ay sadyang nanginginig (is intendedly trembling)
*This part is like saying that in singing all our heart out, the voice trembles, signifying that we could feel the emotion of the singer.

Magmula no'ng ako'y natutong umawit (Eversince I learned to sing)
Bawa't sandali'y aking pilit mabatid (Every moment, I tried to discover/learn)
Ang himig na maituturing atin (the tone/sound which we can say is ours) *meaning the kind of music which identifies the Filipino spirit
Mapupuri 'pagka't bukod-tangi (which can be praised because it is unique)
'Di marami ang 'di magsasabing (Not a lot is not saying)
Heto na't inyong dinggin (Here it is, you listen)

Kay ganda ng ating musika (How lovely is our music)
Kay ganda ng ating musika (How lovely is our music)
Ito ay atin, sariling atin (This is ours, our very own)
At sa habang-buhay, awitin natin (And in our entire life, let us sing it)
Kay ganda ng ating musika (How lovely is our music)
Kay ganda ng ating musika (How lovely is our music)
Ito ay atin, sariling atin (This is ours, our very own)

Magmula no'ng ako'y natutong umawit (Eversince I learned how to sing)
Nagkabuhay muli ang aking paligid (The surrounding came to life again)
Ngayong batid ko na ang umibig (Now I have discovered how to love)
Sa sariling tugtugtin o himig (Our own music or tone)
Sa isang makata'y maririnig (From one poet, we could hear)
Mga titik, nagsasabing (The letters/lyrics are saying)

Kay ganda ng ating musika (How lovely is our music)
Kay ganda ng ating musika (How lovely is our music)
Ito ay atin, sariling atin (This is ours, our very own)
At sa habang-buhay, awitin natin (And in our entire life, let us sing it)
Kay ganda ng ating musika (How lovely is our music)
Kay ganda ng ating musika (How lovely is our music)
Ito ay atin, sariling atin (This is ours, our very own)

Kay ganda ng ating musika (How lovely is our music)
Magmula no'ng ako'y natutong umawit (Eversince I learned how to sing)

ARAW, GABI - REGINE VELASQUEZ

Here is another song written by the Original Pilipino Music Maestro Ryan Cayabyab. I love it when they call him the Maestro because he has created a lot of beautiful songs for lovers, for youth, for the environment and many more. I think I would spend an entire episode blogging about his songs.

I have encountered one blog site, which I have posted below because I copied the lyrics from that site. I think, with my revived interest in writing about songs and celebrating Filipino talents, especially the seasoned and most loved artists, I want to learn more about Mr. Ryan Cayabyab.

So here is one song that has kept ringing in my ears. I loved the interpretation of Regine Velasquez for this song. The first time I heard her sang this, I thought it was so familiar until I figured, she revived the song.

Well, my partner is a Regine Velasquez avid fan, and so am I actually, so I was introduced to her version of this song. In my desire to learn about it, I found a Facebook post where Mr. Ryan Cayabyab wished Ms. Regine Velasquez a happy birthday. Ryan revealed this: "Araw, Gabi. I wrote this for my wife Emmy on her last birthday as a single person before we got married. We recorded it and gave away 45s during our wedding. Nonoy Z originally and beautifully sang it. But you know what? In its 33 years as a song, it has never attained the popularity that it has reached now. And it is all because of you. You sang it...oh so beautifully, and suddenly it has become an anthem for singers who are in love."

The Maestro said it himself. This version of Regine is really very lovely!

Now to my own translation of the song:
ARAW, GABI (Day, Night)
by Regine Velasquez

'Di biro ang sumulat ng awitin para sa 'yo (It is not a joke to write a song for you)
Para akong isang sira-ulong hilo at lito (Like a crazy person, dizzy and confused)
Sa akin pang minanang piyano tiklado'y pilit nilaro (With my inherited piano, I played hard with its keyboard)
Baka sakaling mayroong tonong bigla na lang uusbong (In the hope a tone would suddenly pop up)
Tungkol sa anomang kayang awitin para sa 'yo (About anything which I can sing for you)

'Di biro ang gawing sukat ang titik sa tono (It is no joke to blend the measure of lyrics with tone)
Sampu man aking diks'yonaryo (I may have ten dictionaries)
Kung ang tugma'y 'di wasto (If the rhyme is not right)
Basta't isiping 'di magbabago (Just think it will not change)
Damdamin ko sa iyo (My feelings for you)
*There is a twerk of the syntax here so it to become more sensible in English language, this part of the song meant: "Just think that my feelings for your will not change"

Araw-gabi nasa isip ka (Day-Night, you are on my mind)
Napapanaginip ka kahit sa'n man magpunta (I dream of you no matter where I go)
Araw-gabi nalalasing sa tuwa (Day-Night I get drunk in happiness)
kapag kapiling ka (as long as I am with you/beside you)
Araw-gabi tayong dal'wa (Day-Night the two of us)

Biruin mong nasabi ko ang nais kong ipahatid (Imagine I have said what I wanted to express)
Dapat mo nang mabatid laman nitong dibdib (You need to know the contents of my chest)
Tila sampung daang awitin (It's like ten hundred songs)
Natapos kong likhain (I wanted to creat)
Ito ang tunay na damdamin (This is the real feeling)
Tanggapin at dinggin (Accept and Listen)

Araw-gabi nasa isip ka (Day-Night, you are on my mind)
Napapanaginip ka kahit sa'n man magpunta (I dream of you no matter where I go)
Araw-gabi nalalasing sa tuwa (Day-Night I get drunk in happiness)
kapag kapiling ka (as long as I am with you/beside you)
Araw-gabi tayong dal'wa (Day-Night the two of us)

On a personal note, I would like to say that we Filipinos really do love music. It is not only our past time, it is already part of our life as it runs through our veins.

I love singing Regine Velasquez songs when I was younger and sober. Aging would make you lose your golden voice, you know. So I just sing duet with Regine when I am driving in my car and no one else is listening, except my partner. We sing with her together when we travel the earth together.

This is a love song created by a song writer. If you pursue the desires of your heart, one can be so creative. One could come up with a song with just the sound of one note. A poet could create a poem entry with just one word. That is how powerful love is. We become creative, we become a better version of ourselves.

So more about Filipino songs in my future posts.
If you want me to translate a tagalog or Filipino song, just comment below.

HINDI MAGBABAGO - RANDY SANTIAGO

Hello everyone! It has been a while since my last post and the best way for me to start anew is to write about a song that would signify PERMANENCE!

"Hindi Magbabago" means something or someone will never change, or I can simply say, never change but it will not capture the translation entirely. That is how translation sometimes becomes troublesome. But let me do my best to translate them to you line by line.

Why did I chose this song as my first entry after two years of absence? I have thought of some other things to blog about but songs still appealed to me and this is how I started this blog anyway. Somehow, I was able to help others who are searching for song translations that could somehow capture the real message that the singer and song writer want to deliver to their listeners.

I could say this has been my passion ever since so why not stick to the game I used to play? Why not stick to the blog I have always did? So please, welcome me back and allow me to help you take your mind off this pandemic thing and let the music in our ears give us comfort.

I got the song lyrics from Google and the translation is purely mine, so read along.
Hindi Magbabago by Randy Santiago
(Song translation)

Nang matapos na'ng lahat, ako'y nahirapan (When everything ended, it was difficult)
Nalaman ko na ikaw ang tanging kailangan (I realized/learned that you are the only one I need)
Pinag-iisipang husto sa naiibang mundo (I thought of it so much, though in different world)
Kay hirap nang wala sa piling mo (It is so difficult to be away from you/lost without you)

Ginawa ko na'ng lahat para sa atin (I did everything for you)
Ngunit ika'y nagbago ng hangarin (But you changed your aspirations)
Kahit wala na tayo at masakit man sa puso (Though we are no longer together and it is painful in my heear)
Ay hindi mawawala, mga alaala (all our memories will not be lost) Just a note, the syntax was reversed here. The literal translation read: "will not be lost, all memories"

At hindi magbabago ang gusto ng puso ko (And it will not change, the desires of my heart) or using the correct english syntax, this line should mean "The desires of my heart will never be changed"
Wala nang hahanapin pa kundi pag-ibig mo (I will not search for anything else but your love)
May hiwagang natanto mula sa una pang tagpo (I discovered mysteries since our first meeting)
Mananatili 'to at hindi magbabago (This will remain and will not change)

Ginawa ko na'ng lahat para sa atin (I did everything for us)
Ngunit iba pa rin ang nangyari (But sonething different happened)
Walang-walang tatalo sa lahat nang dinanas ko (Nobody could ever beat what I experienced)
Pagnanais na ika'y mapasaaking muli (My desire for you to be mine again)

At hindi magbabago ang gusto ng puso ko (The desires of my heart will never change)

Kahit malayo na'y malapit ka pa rin sa aking puso, oh (Though you are far, you're still near my heart)
At hindi magbabago ang gusto ng puso ko (The desires of my heart will never change)

Mananatili 'to at hindi magbabago (This will remain and will not change)
At hindi magbabago (And will not change)

There is my translation and just a short post script here. Some would say nothing is permanent in this world. Taking it in the perspective of a philosopher, or a Philosophy major like me, a statement so sweeping like "nothing is permanent in this world" is dubious. I learned that somehow, there is one thing permanent in this world... and that is CHANGE.
There is the word play for today ladies and gentlemen. Just a thought to ponder on or if it made you laugh or smile somehow, share with us your thoughts through the comment box.

Good day!
