Tin Man - America

This is an old song, a hit in the 70s perhaps but it sure reminds me of Gelo, my 10-year old friend, neighbor from Tandang Sora (Quezon City, Philippines). He is the young boy who loved the song by America, which is relatively an "institution" when it comes to music because they have been around for some decades already.

I am not sure if Gelo really understands the lyrics of it or what's in the song that draws him near it. I would say maybe because her mom loves this band and he is what we call a "mama's boy". However, in that particular album by America, this is the only song that he keeps on playing on the cd player.

I, for one, got interested with this song because it caught the attention of a young kid. I have heard of this song long ago, and keeps hearing it played over the radio for quite sometime, but to him, this is like a magnet to his ears.

Oh boy, I miss this kid. I haven't really seen him for over a year now. I hope he still remembers me.

Here's the lyrics:
Sometimes late when things are real
And people share the gift of gab between themselves
Some are quick to take the bait
And catch the perfect prize that waits among the shelves

But Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man
That he didn't, didn't already have
And Cause never was the reason for the evening
Or the tropic of Sir Galahad.

So please believe in me
When I say I'm spinning round, round, round, round
Smoke glass stain bright color
Image going down, down, down, down
Soapsuds green like bubbles

Oh, Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man
That he didn't, didn't already have
And Cause never was the reason for the evening
Or the tropic of Sir Galahad

So please believe in me
When I say I'm spinning round, round, round, round
Smoke glass stain bright color
Image going down, down, down, down
Soapsuds green like bubbles

No, Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man
That he didn't, didn't already have
And Cause never was the reason for the evening
Or the tropic of Sir Galahad

So please believe in me

Gold - Spandau Ballet

I love this song because it talks about your treasure, which is indestructible, unless you let others destroy you. As for me, my greatest treasure is myself.

There are a lot of things that limits my pride, although I am really not a proud person. In fact, I learned from the church that pride is a deadly sin. I do not wish I would have pride. I just wish I am more confident about myself and this is the role of this song in my life.

This song will keep on reminding to "believe in myself" which I forget most of the time. I seldom see the value of my existence but when I see those people who love me and cares for me, I regain my strength, I reclaim my glory. Slowly, I am rising up from my slumber, from my not-so-good past, from those who betrayed my turst. I also want to thank those people who have hurt me because they remind me to stay simple and humble, not too proud and hunger for fame nor attention.

I love this song!

Thank you for coming home
I'm sorry that the chairs are all worn
I left them here I could have sworn
These are my salad days slowly being eaten away
Just another play for today
Oh but I'm proud of you but I'm proud of you
Nothing left to make me feel small
Luck has left me standing so tall, all

Gold! Always believe in your soul
You've got the power to know, you're indestructible
Always believe in 'cause you are gold!
Glad that you're bound to return
there's something I could have learned
You're indestructible, always believe in

After the rush has gone I hope you find a little more time
Remember we were partners in crime
It's only two years ago the man with the suit and the pace
You knew that he was there on the case
Now he's in love with you he's in love with you
My love is like a high prison wall
and you could leave me standing so tall, all

Gold! Always believe in your soul
You've got the power to know, you're indestructible
Always believe in 'cause you are gold!
Glad that you're bound to return
there's something I could have learned
You're indestructible, always believe in

My love is like a high prison wall
and you could leave me standing so tall, all

Gold (gold) Always believe in your soul
You've got the power to know, you're indestructible
Always believe in 'cause you are gold (gold)
Glad that you're bound to return
there's something I could have learned
You're indestructible, always believe in

Lost in Space - Lighthouse Family

This is a song from the late 1990s which I clearly remember because of my friends whom I joined in their adventure while working on their thesis (a requirement before they could gradute from college). I was there to help them get to the beach and took their photos. hahaha! I was a very proud photographer!

I remember it was about "flora and fauna". They were all Biology students, while I was a Social Science gradute so I really didn't care what the heck were they looking for at the mangrove areas. All I care about was to bring them there, provide them a decent place to stay, take their pictures and sing to them this song... which apparently kept on playing on their heads even when the radio is off. Nice!

We explored the mangrove area of San Fabian beach, which is 10-minute drive from our house. We stayed the whole day there and it was so fun soaking our feet on the water! They tried to finish their task while enjoying the rest of the adventure.

That was more than 10 years ago and fortunately, we still keep in touch. Some of them are now professionals in their own field and we now have doctor friends!

So, in remembrance to that day, my friends, I know you would still remember this song! This is our song!

Sometimes I get tired of this me first attitude
You are the one thing that keeps me smiling
That's why I'm always wishing hard for you

'Cause your life shines so bright
I don't feel no solitude
You are my first star at night
I'd be lost in space without you

And I'll never lose my faith in you
How will I ever get to heaven if I do

Feels just so fine
When we touch the sky me and you
This is my idea of heaven
Why can't it always be so good

But it's alright, I know you're out there
Doing what you've gotta do
You are my soul satellite
I'd be lost in space without you

And I'll never lose my faith in you
How will I ever get to heaven, if I do

And I'll never lose my faith in you
How will I ever get to heaven, if I do

And I'll never lose my faith in you
And I'll never lose my faith in you

At the Beginning - Anastacia

At the Beginning

It is the fifth of June and this is the week where we are to honor the birthday celebrants for the month. This has been a tradition in our community and as a gift to the celebrants (we actually called them “celebrators”), we serenaded them with this song.

Rommel, Raul, Mona and Leo are the celebrants for the month. They were all seated in front and we played a group game based on their favorites: food, song, singer, hobbies, actors etc. My team won (Yehey!) and the price was not important. The meat of it is to get to know the celebrants more and had fun in the process.

After the games and the actually honoring, we went to a nearby café and spent the rest of the evening there, and consumed the cake! It was a celebration we truly enjoyed. For me it was a story worth blogging, thus this story.

At the Beginning (Wonderful Journey) - Anastasia

At the Beginning lyrics
We were strangers
Starting out on a journey
Never dreaming
What we'd have to go through
Now here we are
And I'm suddenly standing
At the beginning with you

No one told me
I was going to find you
Unexpected
What you did to my heart
When I lost hope
You were there to remind me
This is the start

Life is a road
And I want to keep going
Love is a river
I wanna keep flowing
Life is a road
Now and forever
Wonderful journey

I'll be there
When the world stops turning
I'll be there
When the storm is through
In the end I wanna be standing
At the beginning with you

We were strangers
On a crazy adventure
Never dreaming
How our dreams would come true
Now here we stand
Unafraid of the future
At the beginning with you

Life is a road
And I want to keep going
Love is a river
I wanna keep flowing
Life is a road
Now and forever
Wonderful journey

I'll be there
When the world stops turning
I'll be there
When the storm is through
In the end I wanna be standing
At the beginning with you

I knew there was somebody somewhere
Like me alone in the dark
Now I know my dream will live on
I've been waiting so long
Nothing's gonna tear us apart

Life is a road
And I want to keep going
Love is a river
I wanna keep flowing
Life is a road
Now and forever
Wonderful journey

I'll be there
When the world stops turning
I'll be there
When the storm is through
In the end I wanna be standing
At the beginning with you

Life is a road and I wanna keep going
Love is a river I wanna keep going on....
Starting out on a journey
Life is a road and I wanna going
Love is river I wanna keep flowing
In the end I wanna be standing
At the beginning with you

Morning Has Broken - Cat Stevens

This may not be a typical religious or worhip music that we mostly know of but each time I hear this song, I remember a religious recollection. After my blog on One of Us, I claimed myself to be "lost and now found" through "leap of faith".

We recently had one recollection and let me share with you the contents of my prayer:

My Father, I ask you what you want me to do for you but you ask me "What do
you want to do for yourself?" I want to calm myself and experience your
peace for a longer time. I want to spend more time doing your work, serving
other people but you want me start from within in order to subsequently
serve my family and my community.

If I let go of my pain, I know I am healed; If I let go of my
past, you said you are with me; if I surrender my fears, you will bless me; if I
focus on your love, you will equip me; if I give you my heart, you will
enlighten me; if I live in solitude, you will stay beside me.

With your great love, I will magnify your miracles
in me. I will let the light that you shone upon me be radiated through my
hands, my words and my works. I will find a way for the building of your
throne in me... I know I am not worthy but with the
sound of your voice, I
will listen, and I will be healed!

Meditation made me compose this prayer and this would always remind me of the great power of solitude and prayer.

Here is the lyrics of the song:

Morning has broken, like the first morning.
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird.
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning,
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word.

Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven.
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass.
Praise for the sweetnes of the wet garden,
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass.

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning.
Born of the one light Eden saw play.
Praise with elation, praise every morning;
God's recreation of the new day.

Morning has broken, like the first morning.
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird.
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning,
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word.

I Honestly Love You - Olivia Newton-John

This is a song which reminds me of myself, because it was sung by a beautiful singer with eqaully beautiful name, Olivia Newton -John.

This is a great love song, perfect for lovers but this would rather remind me of my grandpa! He'll be celebrating his birthday soon, unfortunately he's no longer here with us. I always remember him associate me with this singer maybe because we are both beautiful or our voices sound alike (haha!) Actually, we share the same first names. All right, that's a trade secret okay?

I remember my grandpa ("lolo" is the tagalog word for grandpa) because he always asked me to pluck his thinly growing mustache, I don't even consider it a mustache but only a "weed" growing from his chin. (By the way both my maternal and paternal lolos were named Jose but this one is my maternal lolo.) He used to teach me how to use two coins (yes, coins! It would either be 2 pieces of a dime or quarter.) I learned it his way but it was more convenient for me when I use the twissor. It was an order from my lolo but it was more of my service for him and my way of showing him my affection. I truly love my lolo that's why when he left this world, I cried my heart out. There's another tagalog song that reminds me so much of him. I shall be blogging about it next time.

I miss my lolo! I just want to greet you Happy Birthday lolo, wherever you are!

I love you too!

Here is the lyrics of the song:

Maybe I hang around here a little more than I should
We both know I got somewhere else to go
But I got something to tell you that I never thought I would
But I believe you really ought to know...
I love you , I honestly love you

You don't have to answer, I see it in your eyes
Maybe it was better left unsaid
This is pure and simple and you must realize
That it's coming from my heart and not my head

I love you , I honestly love you
I'm not trying to make you feel uncomfortable
I'm not trying to make you anything at all
But this feeling doesn't come along every day
And you shouldn't blow the chance
When you got the chance to say...

I love you, I honestly love you
If we both were born in another place and time
This moment might be ending in a kiss
But there you are with yours
And here I am with mine
So I guess we'll just be leaving it at this

I love you, I honestly love youI honestly love you

Hands to Heaven - Christian Bautista

This is a song revived by a local artist Christian Bautista. He was one of the finalists in a talent search here in the Philippines. I watched that talent search because my friend Mona told me so. He was particularly cute, by the way. She said this singer looked a lot like his boyfriend. (Owwwsss???)

Anyway, when I first heard this song, I was in the government office (my first job in Manila, my first and only civil service job). My friend Beth said it was beautifully sang by this good-looking singer. I told her I liked the lyrics, it was so full of passion and love, and instantly we shared the same sentiment regarding the song.

Beth is a very good friend. I heard from my aunt that Beth and I are somewhat related but I presume that would be beyond fourth degree of consanguinity and/or affinity. We have good taste when it comes to songs so I bet we really are related to each other. Nevertheless, our friendship remains strong up to this year and our communication is much open.

By the way, we were born the same month. She loves to make jokes, I love listening to her jokes. She's really a funny gal in her natural way.

Hands To Heaven - Christian Bautista

As I watch you move across the moonlit room
There`s so much tenderness in your loving
Tomorrow I must leave the dawn knows no reprieve
God give me strength when I am leaving

So raise your hands to heaven & pray
That we`ll be back together someday

Tonight, I need your sweet caress
Hold me in the darkness
Tonight you calm my restlessness
You relieve my sadness

As we move to embrace, tears run down your face
I whisper words of love so softly
I can`t believe this pain, it`s driving me insane
W/o your touch, life will be lonely

So raise your hands to heaven & pray
That we`ll be back together someday

Morning has come another day
I must pack my bags & say goodbye... goodbye
